Military Veteran Who Removed American Flag From Georgia University Protesters Says She'd Do It Again
A female U.S. veteran was reportedly detained but not charged in Georgia over the weekend after taking the American Flag away from protesters because they were stepping on it to show their opposition to racism in the country.
Michelle Manhart, a former United States Air Force Military instructor, was reportedly detained by police at Valdosta State University in Georgia for removing the flag from student protesters, although she ultimately was not charged in the incident.
The incident took place last Friday, when students at the university were reportedly protesting racism by taking turns walking over the American flag on school property. A cell phone video taken from the incident shows Manhart speaking with police after she allegedly removed the flag from where the students were protesting.
Although Manhart was detained, she was not charged or arrested in the incident. She told The Valdosta Daily Times that she reportedly resisted arrest after she witnessed campus police returning the flag to the protesters.
"I did not want anything like this, but I got a call from a student who told me that the flag was on the ground, and they were walking on it," Manhart told the local media outlet. "I was just going over there to pick up the flag off the ground. I don't know what their cause is, but I went to pick it up because it doesn't deserve to be on the ground."
Manhart, who has previously posed for Playboy magazine, told the local WALB-TV that she doesn't have any regrets about her actions on Friday. The military veteran has reportedly been banned from university activities, such as graduation.
"If I had to do it again I would," Manhart told the local media outlet.
