Microsoft vs. Apple rumors: Surface Pro 5, Surface Book 2 to launch sooner than MacBook Pro 2016?

Apple's MacBook Pro 2016 and Microsoft's Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2 are three of the most anticipated personal computing devices to come out this year. While Apple has been rumored to launch the MacBook Pro 2016 at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference this June 2016, recent reports speculate that Microsoft will have an earlier release of the Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2.
According to reports, Microsoft feels pressured to launch its new generation of Surface Pro and Surface Book devices before the release of the latest version of MacBook Pro later this year. Such shows that Microsoft means business and is hell bent on defeating the competition.
On the other side of the court, there have been speculations that Apple will no longer release the MacBook Air and will replace it with the ultra-thin Macbook Pro 2016. Since the MacBook Pro devices belonging to the new line are expected to be even thinner and lighter than the Macbook Air models, it seems pointless to launch a new MacBook Air.
Rumors about the specs of the Surface Pro 5 and the Surface Book 2 has been circulating around the Internet. According to MobiPicker, both models will likely have 4K resolution that will allow for viewing of 4K video content. While not much is known about the Surface Book 2, the Surface Pro 5 is expected to have a screen size of 13.3 inches. The devices' competitor, the MacBook Pro 2016, will have its iconic Retina display and will be released in 13-inch and 15-inch model options.
Both the laptop hybrids from Microsoft and Apple's MacBook Pro 2016 are speculated to come powered by Intel's Skylake chipsets.
Price rumors suggest that Surface Pro 5 will be priced starting at $899, while the MacBook Pro 2016 will have a price tag of around $1,500 for the 13-inch version and $2,800 for the 15-inch version.
There has been no final announcement from both Microsoft and Apple regarding the release of the abovementioned devices.
