Microsoft Surface Pro 5, Surface Book 2 release date, specs rumors: Both gadgets launching together in 2017?
Microsoft has neither confirmed nor denied the production of a fifth-generation Surface Pro 5, but from the looks of it, the gadget could be launched in 2017 alongside three other devices.
According to PC Advisor, there's a big possibility that the announcement regarding the release date of the Surface Pro 5 and the Surface Book 2 could come in October of this year, with a formal launch happening in spring of 2017. If the release date seems delayed, the publication claimed it could have something to do with Microsoft's postponing the second part of the big Windows 10 update, the Redstone or RS2, for early 2017.
Apparently, Microsoft is waiting until the four devices they are planning to launch are ready so they can put the spotlight on the software features available on the devices.
There have been earlier reports that the Microsoft Surface Book 2's launch has likewise been delayed because the tech giant is waiting for Intel's Kaby Lake processors, which are due to arrive later this year.
Kitguru corroborated the reports, saying that the early 2017 release of the Surface Pro 5 is mainly due to the impending release of Intel's latest processor. There is also the remote possibility that its launch has been delayed in time for the release date of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update that's scheduled to commence in August.
As PC Advisor noted, the Surface Pro 5 could come with a 2K screen or a 4K screen that would be available for a higher price. It could likewise boast of an upgrade to 16GB of RAM for the less expensive models since the Pro 4 is already packed with it.
The latest iteration of the Surface Pro line could also be the first in the range to get a USB-C port instead of a USB 3.0 port. Other features of the device expected to undergo improvements are the camera, Wi-Fi connectivity, and Bluetooth.
As for the price of the Surface Pro 5, PC Advisor said the Pro 4 had a starting price of £749 or about $980 USD, and they noted that there couldn't be much change to the price range.
