Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release news: Device to arrive sometime in 2017; delay caused by Redstone 2 and Kaby Lake processor?
Rumors about the impending release of the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 have been floating around for quite some time now, but it looks like the much-hyped device won't be launched sometime this year.
According to reports, the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 successor won't have a 2016 release date because to date, Microsoft still hasn't even announced any sort of future event or showcase. Back when the Surface Pro 4 was about to be debuted, the tech company hinted its reveal in mid-September 2015. It's now October and at this point, it might be difficult to market a new device this near to the holiday season.
Another reason for the Pro 5's later arrival is the Redstone 2 delay. For the uninitiated, Redstone 2 is a codename for Microsoft's upcoming major update. Back in March of this year, it was announced that the sizable patch won't be released until early 2017 in order to support the latest series of Microsoft-branded devices that have Windows 10.
Additionally, if Microsoft decides to use Intel's latest brand of Kaby Lake processors, the Surface Pro 5's possible release window still falls on 2017. Navin Shenoy, the vice-president and general manager of Intel, previously confirmed that the seventh-gen Kaby Lake Processor will be arriving later this year.
The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will reportedly have three variants consumers can choose from. The device will have a 21-inch, 24-inch and 27-inch screen along with a crisp 4K high-resolution display. Although it is not tailor-made for gaming, the said features are believed to enhance gaming experience for users. Other special features for the Surface Pro 5 include a USB type-C port to make file transfers a lot faster and a Surface Pen which no longer has wires for charging.
Microsoft has yet to reveal a release date for the Surface Pro 5, but the Surface Pro 4 is currently available on the market for ‎$899.00 to $1,799.00.
