Contrary to speculations that the Surface Pro 5 will hit the shelves before 2016 ends, recent reports claim that it will arrive sometime next year. The Surface Pro 4 arrived October 2015, which means that a follow-up to the device can be expected a year after. However, Microsoft seems to be stalling the production, in hopes of developing a device "worth the wait."

As noted in latest reports, the upcoming Surface Pro 5 will be an upgraded version of its predecessor, the Surface Pro 4. What will be the features under the hood? CNET notes that the current Surface Pro 4 has Intel's sixth-gen Skylake processors, and the Surface Pro 5 will have Skylake's successor called Kaby Lake processors. The said chipset will be introduced sometime this year, and it will be more powerful than the Skylake chips.

It will also sport a USB Type-C port, which is now the common trend for new devices. When it comes to pricing, the Surface Pro 4 is straight up expensive, with the entry-level costing $899. Upgrading the memory might even push the price further, ranging from $1299 to $2000. Reports say that the Surface Pro 5's Core will have a price tag of $899.

The Intel Core i7 variant will be priced at $999, and the i7 Extreme model at $1599.

In terms of display, Microsoft's upcoming flagship hybrid device is rumored to have 4K capabilities, putting it in the roster of the company's high-end line-up. Other specs include a microSD slot, a Mini Display Port for video, a new rechargeable Surface Pen and dock along with a 3.5-mm headset jack.
