Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date, specs news: Laptop to feature extended battery life better than Surface Pro 4

The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is one of the much-anticipated device releases this year, although the Redmond-based tech giant has not revealed any official details yet regarding the next iteration of the Surface Pro line. The Surface Pro 4 was released last year, while the third Surface Pro was launched in 2014, so the tech enthusiasts and spectators are expecting the Surface Pro 5 to be released sometime this year, considering the one year gap in between the major releases. However, it appears that Microsoft will be having the Surface Pro 5 launch next year instead.
In spite of the extended period of waiting for the next Surface Pro, Microsoft can use this as an opportunity to further improve the features of the Surface Pro 4's successor. One of the major issues being raised by the users about Surface Pro 4 is its very limited battery life. While the Surface Pro's present features are superb, its processing system consumes much battery life. Therefore, the Surface Pro 5 is expected to fix that flaw by introducing a much efficient processor. With that, Microsoft is rumored to use Intel's next generation of processor chipset called the Kaby Lake, The Bitbag reported. The shipping of the new chipsets will take time, however, and the Kaby Lake processors will be available towards the end of 2016, leaving the Surface Pro 5's release date moved to early 2017.
Another possible cause of the delay is the development of the new operating system from Microsoft. Surface Pro 5 is speculated to introduce the Windows 10 Redstone 2 OS for the first time in the Surface flagship. That would also mean that the new Redstone OS must be launched before the Surface Pro 5. So far, the Windows 10 Redstone 2 is not expected to be released anytime soon, and therefore the Surface Pro 5 might have to wait until the first few months of 2017 before it gets released.
