Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date, specs news: Device to launch next year; Intel to release Kaby Lake processor late 2016?

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 has been a huge commercial hit worldwide, and many tech analysts rave about the hybrid device's incredible features. This is why the fans of the Surface Pro line are expecting the next iteration of the gadget to be released in the near future. Initial rumors suggest that the Surface Pro 5 will be out in the markets sometime this year. However, the latest reports hint that Microsoft may no longer be able to launch Surface Pro 5 in 2016. Instead, their newest product will be delayed to a 2017 release date. This is due to the delay in the release of Intel's newest Kaby Lake processors, which are supposed to be Surface Pro 5's processing chipset.

Kaby Lake is rumored to be the greatest and fastest chipset offering from Intel. However, Kaby Lake is reported to be released towards the end of 2016 and with that, the Surface Pro 5 will be released in the early part of 2017. The Surface Pro 5 was first believed to launch in June 2016 after the official release of the Kaby Lake processors at the 2016 Computex. However, the chipmaker Intel said that the Kaby Lake processor will not be released earlier, and instead will be released in the final months of 2016.

The additional waiting period may be worth it after all as Surface Pro 5 is expected to be among the first devices to feature the said chipset. More importantly, the Kaby Lake processor is said to double the efficiency of the gadgets it will run.

To note, Surface Pro 4 is run by the latest Skylake processors, and if the speculations regarding the Surface Pro 5 powered by the new Kaby Lake chipset, it is expected that the new Surface Pro 5 model will be a lot faster than its predecessor.

Digital Trends reported Intel Core i7-7700K Kaby Lake Processor has a GPU performance of 37.41 MP per second, a DDR4 latency of 23.2 nanoseconds, 5.59 GB per sec cryptographic processing, 313.84 MP per sec multimedia processing and 118.71 giga-operations per sec across eight threads. These are impressive numbers matched for a high-level device like Surface Pro 5.

Surface Pro 5 is also expected to sport 4K Ultra HD screen display, and the screen resolution of the hybrid tablet will be 3840 pixels in width at maximum. It is also expected to have a new and improved design of stylus pen, as well as the fingerprint scanner feature and the newest USB type C port.
