Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date, news, specs rumors: Next Surface Pro iteration not expected on Oct. 26 in spite of Surface Pro 4 price discounts

Earlier this year, rumors popped up regarding the release of the Surface Pro 5 in the third or last quarter of 2016. Now that there are only a few months left for this year, the public is waiting for Microsoft's official announcement about the fate of its highly successful Surface devices. However, the Redmond-based tech giant has yet to confirm the Surface Pro refresh this year. With the confirmed press event of the company in the last week of October, it is speculated that the Surface Pro 5 will be unveiled during the event.

Unfortunately for Surface Pro followers, it is unlikely that Microsoft will be releasing the Surface Pro 5 this month or even in the remaining weeks of 2016. This is in spite of the reported price discounts for the current Surface Pro 4 units in the market. As reported by Tech Times, huge price discounts are being offered by several retailers on the Surface Pro 4. For one, Amazon is offering up to $585 price cut for those who wish to buy a Surface Pro 4 powered by an Intel Core i7e chipset, with 16GB RAM and 1TB internal storage. For the low-end Surface Pro 4 variant with only 256GB storage capacity, a $260 price cut is being offered.

Usually, the price discount promos for the older models indicate the arrival of the newer ones, but this might not be the case with the Surface Pro 4 and 5. It is notable that the Surface Pro 4 is still enjoying high sales in the market today, even if the device was released a year ago. With this, the demand for a new Surface Pro model is not yet that high.

Also, one of the possible reasons why the Surface Pro 5 will not be released this year is the shipping of Intel's seventh generation processor, the Kaby Lake. According to Game N Guide, the Surface Pro 5 will be using the Skylake's successor that will provide impressive boost of its performance. However, the Kaby Lake chipsets are not expected to be shipped until the end of the year, thus affecting the supposed release of the Surface Pro 5.

The Microsoft hardware event on Oct. 26 is expected to focus on the new features of Windows 10. As for the updates on the Surface family, it is rumored that Microsoft will present the first all-in-one (AIO) Surface desktop computer.
