Tech enthusiasts who tuned in to the recently concluded Microsoft hardware event were expecting that the much awaited next iteration of the Surface Pro would make an appearance. Unfortunately, it seems that it is not yet the right time to showcase the new hybrid laptop. While many Surface Pro followers might now be losing their hope that the Surface Pro 5 would be released very soon, the latest rumors still hint at a possible early 2017 release of the device.

As reported by Parent Herald, the focus of the October hardware event is the latest update for the current Windows 10 OS. Specifically, the event featured the new 3D content creation exclusive for Windows 10 users. There was also an update for the Xbox console during the event. However, the closest update pertaining to the new Surface devices was the announcement of the upgraded Surface Book.

The new Surface Book may not necessarily be the all-new Surface Book 2 that the tech enthusiasts were expecting before. Nevertheless, the latest update is already impressive. The new Surface Book boasts 13.5 million pixel display, SSD storage options ranging from 256 GB to 1 TB, choices of 8 GB to 16 RAM configurations, and extended battery life of up to 16 hours. These features might come close to what the Surface Pro 5 will be having, although the Redmond-based tech company has yet to reveal their plans of the next Surface Pro laptop.

According to PC Advisor UK, the unveiling of the Surface Pro 5 next year may be due to the delay in shipping the next generation of Intel processor, the Kaby Lake. The Surface Pro 5 is said to be powered by the Intel Kaby Lake, thus the users can expect much faster and impressive performance compared to the current Skylake-powered laptops. Also, Microsoft is also reported to introduce the Windows 10 Redstone 2 OS update via Surface Pro 5, but the said Windows update is not yet expected to be finished until Spring 2017.
