Microsoft Corporation has remained silent amid the rumors that the Redmond-based tech giant will be releasing the next iteration of the highly successful Surface Pro line this year. Many people are expecting that Microsoft is about to reveal the Surface Pro 5 sometime in 2016 as the previous model, Surface Pro 4, was released almost a year ago. So far, there are a few hints that Microsoft might be holding back the launching of their new device, although rumor has it that the upcoming Microsoft Fall Event 2016 will finally unveil the latest Surface Pro design.

While there is a growing speculation that the new Surface Pro will be released this year, there are a few reports suggesting that the release date might be delayed. There is even a possibility that the Surface Pro 5 will be launched in the early months of 2017 instead. According to a report from Yibada, Microsoft might be holding back the launching of the new Surface Pro because its supposed operating system, the Windows 10 Redstone 2, is not yet ready to be released this year. Redstone 2 is not expected to launch until the spring of 2017, therefore suggesting that the release of Surface Pro 5 will be delayed until then.

On the other hand, ZDNet reported that Microsoft is prepping up a huge surprise for the tech enthusiasts in the company's upcoming Fall event this year. The online publication claims that Microsoft has already confirmed the unveiling of the latest Surface device during the event, although the rumor did not confirm if the said Surface device is pertaining to the Surface Pro 5. There is also a chance that the Fall event will not mention the new Surface Pro, but instead will unveil the Surface Book 2 or the rumored Microsoft Surface Phone.

Another possible cause of delay is the shipping of the latest Kaby Lake technology. There are rumors that the Surface Pro 5 will be among the first few devices to be powered by Intel's next generation chipset that is more powerful than the current Intel Skylake. The Surface Pro 5 is supposed to launch this year following the official announcement of Kaby Lake at the 2016 Computex. However, Intel is reportedly delaying the production and shipping of Kaby Lake chipsets to the final months of 2016, meaning that the Surface Pro 5 will be delayed to early 2017 release.
