Microsoft Surface Pro 3 release date, specs rumors, update: Microsoft launches new update to fix battery issue

Microsoft is determined to fix a prominent issue in the latest Microsoft Surface Pro 3. Despite launching an update in the past to fix the device's battery capacity problems, the company wasn't able to completely resolve the issue. Lately, Microsoft has released a new update that will hopefully fix it for good.

The latest update went live this week to permanently correct the problem. The previous update was launched back in Aug. 29. The updates are automatically launched through Microsoft Update.

For Surface Pro 3 owners to further understand the content of the latest update, Microsoft issued a statement on their website. According to the company, "v38.10.90.0 corrects an error that may occur on a limited number of Surface Pro 3 devices where the full charge capacity of the battery is misreported to the operating system and device firmware."

The company also added that the Surface Pro 3 update fixes the firmware component that functions as a fuel gauge so that the battery capacity is accurately reported.

Microsoft also noted that upon installing the update, the device has to be plugged directly into AC power. The standard AC power adapter must be used instead of the Surface Docking Station. Furthermore, the tech company advised users to disconnect USB devices and other external monitors. Windows must also indicate that the device is at least 40 percent charged before installing the update.

The company reportedly developed the update once complaints about the device started rolling, which was when the Surface Pro 3 that had Simpolo batteries were being shipped.

Reports added that multiple users complained that the battery drained quickly even though it was fully charged. Meanwhile, other users reported that the device wasn't charging. In addition, there have been instances wherein the device wouldn't function properly unless plugged in.
