Multiple reports have already emerged that the upcoming Microsoft Surface Phone will be released in 2017. According to a podcast interview on Twit, Chris Capossela, Microsoft's chief marketing officer, said that the handset will be launched next year.

The smartphone is said to arrive in three different variants and each has a correspondent price tag. According to reports the Microsoft Surface Phone will run on Redstone 2 operating system. The software is said to be the reason why the release of the device is being pushed back to 2017. Apparently, Redstone 2 will not be completed until next year.

"We need more breakthrough experiences, breakthrough hardware to get people to move to Windows mobile OS," Capossela explained. "It's gotta be a phone that's sort of like, Wow."

Although Microsoft has yet to reveal the smartphone's specs, some of its features have already hit the Internet. Rumor has it that the phone will carry a 5.5- inch Quad HD with AMOLED display and it will come with a 1440x2560 resolution. A USB Type-C port is also expected to be one of its features. The device is also said to sport a liquid cooling technology, and people are starting to wonder how it will work.

There are reports that the Microsoft Surface Phone will be powered by Intel Atom x3 processor, along with its 4 GB of RAM. Some critics and fans are also saying that the handset may come with a 21MP PureView rear lens, which should be an interesting piece once proven true.

Meanwhile, in a previous report by The News Independent, Microsoft Surface Phone will be sold between $700 and $1200. The publication also added that business class customers will get the best features out of the three variants available.

A 2017 release of the phone is certainly a good thing for consumers. It gives them more options to choose from when they decide to look for another handset next year.
