The production of much-awaited sequel "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" is currently on hold, and unfortunately, no one knows yet when it will resume filming. According to Deadline, 20th Century Fox made the confirmation  due to the physical injury sustained by lead star Dylan O' Brien (Thomas), which apparently is more serious than initially reported.

In line with the filming suspension and O' Brien's injury, the production company released a press statement which reads: "The resumption of principal photography on "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" has been further delayed to allow Dylan O'Brien more time to fully recover from his injuries. We wish Dylan a speedy recovery and look forward to restarting production as soon as possible."

Fox confirmed that the movie adaptation of James Dashner's book series is slated to premiere on Feb. 17, 2017. However, it remains unclear if the company will stick to the said date after the accident. It is unclear as to how the actor sustained his injuries, but Fox stated that it happened on-set. They previously released a press statement about it which reads: "Dylan O'Brien was injured yesterday while filming 'Maze Runner: The Death Cure' in Vancouver, Canada. He was immediately transferred to a local hospital for observation and treatment. Production on the film will be shut down while he recovers. Our thoughts go out to Dylan for a full and speedy recovery."

Fox did not mention how O' Brien got his injuries but according to The Hollywood Reporter's sources, O' Brien was wearing a harness while he is on top of a moving vehicle. He suddenly got pulled off the vehicle and he was accidentally hit  by another moving vehicle. The incident happened last March, and the production was previously shut down to let the actor recover. Filming was scheduled to resume on May 9, but sources say that the crew and cast members were told to go home, as they take an indefinite break until the actor gets back in shape. O' Brien's injuries were described to include a  "concussion, facial fracture and lacerations," WorkSafeBC notes.
