'Master of None' season 2 release date news update: Premiere window revealed; Aziz Ansari speaks on season 2 delay, casting his real-life parents

Fans of Netflix's hit comedy series "Master of None" will have to wait until April 2017 to see the show's return for its second season.

After a successful premiere back in November 2015, the critically-acclaimed program has been renewed for season 2 earlier this year. Lead actor/co-creator Aziz Ansari recently caught up with The Hollywood Reporter to share details on the upcoming season and according to him, the show will air sometime around April next year. Ansari noted that part of the reason for the delay was the wealth of personal material he will have to cover.

"This show isn't the type of show where we're going to be able to just turn around and turn it in right away," he explained. "We covered so much stuff in season one and wanted to make sure the ideas we had in season two were equally interesting and the episodes were just as ambitious. So we took a long break, and that's why season two hasn't come out yet."

Ansari added that the delay in premiere actually helped the creators because they wanted to make the second season as good or even better than the first one. Now that all the scripts are written, he admits feeling confident of how season 2 will play out. He also confirmed that shooting will begin a couple of weeks from now.

For the uninitiated, "Master of None" follows a 30-year-old actor living in New York named Dev (Ansari). The show also features Dev's group of friends as they navigate life, love and relationships in the Big Apple.

Since the show is somewhat a mirror of Ansari's life, he wanted to find a convincing actor to portray his father. He had a difficult time finding the perfect actor for the part so he ended up casting his real-life parents to play Dev's mom and dad. From being a South Carolina physician, Ansari's father Shoukath is now featured in an Emmy FYC billboard in Los Angeles. "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree," Ansari told The Wrap. "He's probably funnier than I am."

"Master of None" season 2 premieres on April 2017, but Netflix has yet to announce a definitive launch date.
