'Mafia 3' release date news: Game launch expected in April?

The next installment of the popular crime action-adventure "Mafia" game series published by 2K Games will exhibit a whole new world and fresh music playlist but with the same familiar faces and narrative of organized crime activities and run-ins with the law. While the latest rumors are pointing towards an April release date, many video game fans are starting to compare the upcoming game to "Grand Theft Auto 5" that also tackles the world of underground criminals.

It was recently revealed by 2K Games that "Mafia 3" is actually in the works and will embark the next chapter in the lives of crime organizations or "Mafias" that will be shown by giving "rich narrative storytelling and a beautifully crafted game world featuring period-accurate cars, music, and fashion."

As reported by the Bitbag, "Mafia 3" is being heavily compared to "GTA 5" with the same crime story, but the Steam page of the upcoming game is said to feature the player character having already delved deep into the world of criminal activities. This premise of "Mafia 5" is quite different from the usual setting of the "Grand Theft Auto" video games who describe the player as a newbie in doing underground activities or as someone who turned away from doing crimes but was forced to go back to his old life.

"Mafia 3" will cover the story of Lincoln Clay and his criminal activities in the midst of Vietnam War as shown in the game's worldwide reveal trailer. One point raised by Bitbag that differentiates "Mafia's" seriousness from the relatively light tone of "Grand Theft Auto" is the willingness of Clay to kill people throughout the game without being taken aback or showing remorse. The website also mentioned the developers of "Mafia 3" to set the game into a darker and more serious tone that will involve big issues, including racism.

It can also be seen from the trailer that Clay is wanting to exact revenge to those who have wronged him and killed the Black mob family which he was once a part of. Also a part of the main character's grand scheme is to create his own criminal empire. Bitbag also found a hint on Clay's allegiance in the story as the Steam page of "Mafia 3" shows a possibility that Clay will betray the people surrounding even though he himself is not fond of being betrayed after what happened to his family.

As of now, there are no official announcements regarding the launching of "Mafia 3," although some details for "Mafia 3" was posted on the Gamestop website that include the release date of April 26 for Microsoft Windows PC, Mac OS X and PlayStation 4. The game's retail price is listed at $59.99.
