"Play the Moments," an improvement that allows players to speed up the season, is the keynote update to the Franchise mode in the upcoming "Madden NFL 17."

The new "Madden 17" feature allows players to fast forward through the season without feeling like they missed out on most of it. When "Play the Moments" is enabled, the game automatically determines which plays are important using various criteria such as score, remaining time, and field position. It then stops the game and asks the user if he/she wants in.

This significantly cuts down the length of a typical season game. "A 17-week season is a long time, and people love the playoffs, people love the draft and the off-season," EA Tiburon's John White told Polgygon. "We wanted to make sure people get to experience all of that as well."

According to a press release from EA, "Play the Moments" is the "fastest way to play 'Madden NFL.'" The shortened games mean that a gamer can play an entire regular season, from opening day to the Super Bowl, over the course of a weekend.

But this doesn't mean that gamers will be playing a watered-down version of "Madden 17." With "Play the Moments" enabled, they will be invited to play during important milestones and crucial moments such as game-winning drives, red zone drives, and such.

Players who choose to experience the entire season can still do so by turning off "Play the Moments." They may also choose to jump in and out of moments throughout the game.

Apart from "Play the Moments," EA announced that "Madden NFL 17" also features full player editing, practice squads, and a dynamic score ticker. In addition, the game will have a "Big Decisions" feature for coaching duties and decisions such as bringing back a player from injury or signing a free agent.

"Madden NFL 17" will be available for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on Aug. 23.
