'Madam Secretary' season 3 episode 3 spoilers: Elizabeth deals with US environmental activists arrested in China for spying

While Elizabeth (Téa Leoni) negotiates for the release of environmental activists arrested for spying in China, Henry (Tim Daly) urges the FBI to look into a person he suspects in his family's cyber-stalking case in the upcoming episode of CBS' political drama "Madam Secretary" season 3.
Titled "South China Sea," Sunday's episode will see a crisis involving espionage. According to the official synopsis for episode 3, U.S. environmental activists protesting China's damage of a South China Sea reef end up being arrested by authorities for spying. As Elizabeth lobbies for their release, she finds herself in a stalemate with the Chinese foreign minister. Elsewhere, Henry's quest to find their stalker continues. The McCord patriarch taps the FBI and urges them to investigate one of Elizabeth's former students who he suspects as the person responsible for cyber-stalking his family. During a trade visit to Vietnam, President Dalton (Keith Carradine) recalls his memories of serving in the country during the war.
CBS recently released a promo clip for episode 3, and it shows the escalating tensions between the U.S. and China. "Those activists were taken illegally," Elizabeth firmly tells the Chinese foreign minister. At some point in the teaser, someone informs Elizabeth that Chinese fighter jets are flying dangerously close to the U.S. ships. "China's pushing us. I need to push back," President Dalton says before the clip ends.
In the previous episode titled "The Linchpin," Elizabeth traveled to Algeria to prevent an impending civil war. After General Cherat's attempt to save the monastery, Elizabeth was able to convince him to send President Haddad to The Hague. At first, the general was a bit hesitant because he believes sending the president away would be treason. He eventually did the right thing and saved his country from being in a state of war. Back at home, Henry dealt with the fact that their children are in danger and ended up giving them security detail.
Keep tuning in to "Madam Secretary" season 3 airing every Sunday night at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
