MacBook Pro 2016 update: Will it replace the MacBook Air?

There are speculations that Apple will unveil the latest MacBook Pro in June, but an even more surprising rumor is that the new line-up will cause the MacBook Air to be completely phased out.
According to International Business Times, the much-awaited laptop from Apple nearing its speculated release date might be good news, but it will also cause the "axing" of MacBook Air line-up. Previous reports indicated that the tech giant will introduce two variants of the MacBook Pro this year, a 13-inch model and a 15-inch model. The latest offering from Apple boasts of its ultra-thin body and light weight. When it comes to the design, it is reported to look like the 12-inch MacBook released a year ago. With Apple keeping the lid on further details, some people suspect that instead of two MacBooks being released this year, only one will represent Apple's laptop line-up. The MacBook Pro is rumored to sport a Retina display, which is a high-end technology for latest devices.
This speculation is further supported by a reliable insider noted in a report by Jack March. In a post entitled "Apple has probably killed the 'Air' brand," March concluded by saying: "It's more likely that Apple will launch new MacBook Pro's that are thinner (at thickest point) and lighter than the current MacBook Air models, therefore making the 2016 13-inch MacBook Pro the Retina MacBook Air that everyone was waiting for."
If indeed the MacBook Pro will be released together with the MacBook Air, the two models are expected to be introduced at the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) which will be held on June 13-17. No word yet from Apple if they will indeed release the laptops in the said event, but the company has always been tight-lipped when it comes to details on future releases of their devices.
