There is a lot of mystery surrounding the next MacBook Air laptop. As early as last year, there have been speculations that Apple will be releasing the next iteration of the mid-range Mac Air units in 2016. However, the latest reports suggest that the new MacBook Air will not make an appearance this year. In fact, the rumor is also rife that the MacBook Air label might be discontinued completely by the Cupertino-based tech giant. Still, not all hope is lost as there is no official announcement yet from Apple regarding the future of the MacBook Air.

If ever Apple decides to push through with the MacBook Air moniker, it is expected that the 2016 model will be sporting a lot of new features. Ecumenical News reported that the upgraded MacBook Air laptops due to be released this year are going to boast a powerful 5K screen resolution display. This will offer the users a very impressive viewing experience, much better than the previous Mac Air units. Aside from the impressive screen settings, the 2016 MacBook Air will be made even thinner than the previous Mac laptops as it is expected to sport a slimmer 15-inch design. This thinner model will be replacing the current 11-inch MacBook Air design.

Apple seems focused on the Macbook Air 2016's visual features, if the rumors are anything to go by. Adding to the 5K resolution is the Mac Air sporting the latest AMD Polaris 11 GPU. Actually, the new Polaris GPU will not only improve the graphics of the MacBook Air 2016 but also help minimize the battery life consumption of the laptop. Also, the online publication also reported that Apple might decide to insert a Touch ID feature to the next MacBook Air design with an OLED touch bar included. These additions are expected to improve the security settings of the laptop

Many Apple followers expected that the company would mention the MacBook Air 2016 in the Worldwide Developers Conference 2016 last month, although Apple was primarily focused on the new iOS during the event. Still, there are other events within the coming months where Apple might unveil the new MacBook Air.
