MacBook Air 2016 release date, specs news update: Launch still unknown; Apple ending device's production?

Consumers waiting for specs details and release date of the MacBook Air 2016 edition should brace for a little disappointment. Rumors are claiming that the Cupertino-based tech giant is not planning to release that latest iteration anytime soon.

The company hasn't confirmed nor denied the rumors, but neither have they given any updates on the status of the MacBook Air. Moreover, it has been quite a while since the product line was given any major update. Since the MacBook Air was launched in 2008, it has received only a few minor improvements.

For instance, in the spring of 2015, Apple's lightest and slimmest laptop was given several under-the-hood improvements, which included the addition of the Intel Broadwell chipset. That upgrade likewise included high-definition graphics 6000 and the Thunderbolt 2 display. Not much has been done since then, a fact that has led to a slew of speculations.

For one, some reports are speculating that the tech giant is considering scrapping the MacBook Air product line altogether. The reason? Some industry insiders think the laptop is redundant. Since the MacBook Pro 2016, which some rumors claim is Apple's current focus, will be lighter and slimmer compare to the MacBook Air.

According to reports, the amped-up MacBook Pro 2016 will boast of a better graphics card, which is ideal for gaming, and a better display screen. Reports further say this latest Pro iteration will feature the Mac OS Sierra, Apple's newest operating system, which will have Siri on laptop devices. Moreover, the MacBook Pro 2016 is said to have an ITB SSD, the USB-C port, Intel Kaby Lake processor, and the Thunderbolt 3 port.

The purported overhauling of the MacBook Pro 2016 is said to be the reason why the development and subsequent release of the MacBook Air 2016 are being put off. Nevertheless, aside from the Pro 2016, the Apple Watch 2 and iPhone 7 are expected to launch this year, too, perhaps by September. Still, many are hoping the MacBook Air 2016 will find its way to production.
