MacBook Air 2016 release date, news, rumors: Apple to cease Mac Air production; MacBook Air 2016 not happening?

Several tech enthusiasts and analysts are expecting that Apple will finally upgrade the MacBook Air brand this year, along with their other big devices set to releases their respective iterations in the coming months. While there is hope that the Mac Air 2016 will make an appearance this year and boast several hardware improvements, plus an enhanced graphics card and processing chipset, the future may not be too bright for this particular MacBook line.
Recent reports suggest that Apple will be having a huge year ahead of them as several leaks of the MacBook Pro 2016, Apple Watch 2 and iPhone 7 have surfaced online. However, there is not much information regarding the MacBook Air 2016, and only a few reports are picking on the said device. BGR reported that there is a possibility that the MacBook Air 2016 will not happen, and Apple may even be planning to discontinue to production of Mac Air laptops. The online publication claims that the Macbook Air is slowly being phased out as it has not been getting proper updates over the past few years. It is possible that Apple is focusing on the Macbook Pro 2016, given that the previous Macbook Air design has already been surpassed by their recent products. Specifically, the new Retina Macbook features several specs upgrade superior to that of the 11-inch
The online publication claims that the MacBook Air is slowly being phased out as it has not been getting proper updates over the past few years. It is possible that Apple is focusing on the MacBook Pro 2016, given that the previous MacBook Air design has already been surpassed by their recent products. Specifically, the new Retina MacBook features several specs upgrade superior to that of the 11-inch MacBook Air. The 13-inch Mac Air, on the other hand, is no match compared to the current 13-inch variant of MacBook Pro.
"This wasn't the MacBook Air, but instead leaped past the Air," said Jan Dawson, chief analyst at Jackdaw Research. "They kept the MacBook Air around just as they do with older iPhones, but the MacBook is now in the same position as the newest iPhone. That makes me wonder if the Air will go away over time."
In spite of the rumored phasing out of the Macbook Air, Bloomberg reported that the Mac Air 2016 may still be revealed alongside the 2016 Macbook Pro. If the rumors are anything to go by, the upgraded Macbook Air will be released as early as October this year. The rumored specs of the new Mac Air include the new multipurpose USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 3. However, the October release rumors for the Macbook Air 2016 contradicts the earlier reports that Apple will unveil the refreshed versions of their flagship devices on their September 7 press event. It is likely that the huge Apple event next month will only focus on the iPhone 7 and Apple Watch 2, plus their latest software such as iOS 10, watchOS 3 and tvOS 10.
