'Luke Cage' season 2 plot rumors, spoilers: Will Diamondback remain as the show's main villain?
"Luke Cage" might be introducing a stronger villain when the series returns to the small screen.
The show easily became a hit among Marvel fans when it aired on Netflix back in September, and fans are now looking forward to seeing the titular bulletproof hero back in action. Season 1 left off with Erik LaRay Harvey's Willis Stryker, also known as Diamondback, causing quite a bit of chaos in the story when he executed a plan for vengeance against Luke (Mike Colter). However, he was thrown in prison when Luke defeated him at the end of the season.
Even though Diamondback was locked up, Cinemablend points out that there's every chance that he could still have a significant role in season 2, similar to "Daredevil's" Kingpin. After all, the season 1 finale saw the doctor who gave Luke powers attending to an unconscious Diamondback. He probably won't be front and center when the show picks up, but it is believed that the villainous character will make an appearance in an episode or two.
Before season 2 airs, Luke Cage will next be seen in Netflix's 2017 miniseries "The Defenders" with Marvel heroes Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and Iron Fist. As far as details about "Luke Cage" season 2 goes, the new mini-series is certainly a sizable roadblock. Luke is expected to have a huge presence on the show, which means that the Harlem hero will likely walk away from it all as a different person. That will surely affect the way things will begin on the season 2 premiere of "Luke Cage."
Earlier this month, Netflix decided to renew "Luke Cage" for another season. The show is now the third Marvel series to get a second season on the streaming network. "Daredevil" was first to be renewed for a sophomore run, and it has also received the go signal for a third. "Jessica Jones" shortly followed suit after its critically acclaimed first season.
Netflix has yet to announce an official premiere date for "Luke Cage" season 2.
