'Luke Cage' Netflix premiere date, spoilers news: Full trailer revealed; Mike Colter speaks about the series' importance to fans

Marvel's "Luke Cage" is all set for its debut next month.
Mike Colter takes on the role of Luke Cage. Speaking with Wired, the 39-year-old actor described Harlem, New York's new defender as a "work in progress" since Luke is still figuring his life out. In terms of Luke's relevance to fans, Colter says he appreciates the initial response he received. "They didn't have any other character they could relate to, an American black guy from the streets. That became important to me," he added.
The character Luke made his TV debut in "Jessica Jones" as the titular heroine's on-again off-again love interest. Luke's story will pick up after he lost his wife and moved to Harlem to start anew.
The show is Marvel's first attempt to come up with a program featuring a black protagonist and Marvel's television division head Jeph Loeb hopes this will inspire viewers. "If we can get one person to watch the show and to think differently about what it is to be a hero in the present day, and what it is to be a black hero, then that's a victory," he explained to Wired.
Netflix recently put out the first full trailer for the upcoming Marvel series revealing Luke's two different worlds: his ordinary life by day and his dark encounters while fighting off evil at night. The titular character maintained his '70s look from the comic books which fans were probably not expecting to see. The clip also featured a flashback sequence taking the viewers to the moment when Luke became the subject of an experiment — making him bullet-proof and incredibly strong.
Rosario Dawson reprises her role as Claire Temple. Claire appears in all of Marvel's and Netflix's street-level hero series, and she usually serves as a voice of reason for vigilantes. Her presence can help Luke as he learns how to handle his newfound power. It remains to be seen if sparks will fly between the two characters.
Netflix will release all episodes of Marvel's "Luke Cage" on Friday, Sept. 30.
