'Lucifer' season 2 spoilers, plot news: Aimee Garcia's character Ella becomes Maze's new friend, EP confirms working on storyline where Ella and Maze meets

Controversial drama-comedy series "Lucifer" will soon be back for its second season, and fans can't wait to see the new characters to be introduced in the show.
Aside from Lucifer Morningstar's (Tom Ellis) mother Charlotte (Tricia Helfer, "Battlestar Galactica") entering the picture, "Dexter" star Aimee Garcia will also be on board as the Los Angeles Police Department's new forensic scientist named Ella. She is described as an intelligent and religious woman since she was raised by a Catholic family. According to TV Line, she is "brainy but spiritual, warm but tough" which makes her a kind of a walking contradiction.
She will also intrigue Lucifer because of her views about the opposing worlds of religion and science. "Her mutual belief in both faith and science proves a point of interest to Lucifer — and the rest of the department — as they get to know and love her quirky ways," the character description reads.
There are speculations that Ella will have a big social circle next season instead of just being confined within the walls of LAPD's forensic division. In a Twitter post dated last July 13, original cast member Lesley-Ann Brandt who plays the role of Maze suggested to executive producer Joe Henderson that her character and Ella should become close friends.
Maze may have found a friend in Dr. Linda Martin (Rachael Harris) earlier in the series, but Brandt believes that it's about time to give her character a bigger social circle. Garcia also tweeted Henderson, saying how she admire's Brandt as an actress and wishes to have scenes with her as well. In her post, the actress mentioned how Brandt is "gorgeous, hilarious, smart and wickedly talented."
Upon reading the Twitter posts, Henderson revealed that he and the rest of the writers are already brainstorming on how the two female characters will meet.
