"Lucifer" season 2 will introduce the titular character's mother Charlotte, but her arrival may bring in a lot of complications.

The pilot season left off with Lucifer Morningstar being resurrected by God after he was fatally shot. In exchange for his new life, Lucifer must recapture a soul who also escaped from hell—his own mother.

During last week's Comic-Con panel, showrunner Joe Henderson mentioned that the idea of incorporating Lucifer's mother was not initially planned. She plays a "nemesis/nurturer" role to Lucifer and her presence will influence the rest of the characters as well. "The introduction of mom brings a whole new dynamic to the show," lead star Tom Ellis said. Whenever Charlotte is around, Ellis hints that the characters suddenly behave in a different manner. "You see the formidable characters be really not so formidable," he continued.

The upcoming season will also touch on Lucifer's interesting dynamic with Chloe Decker. Because of her immunity to Lucifer's charming ways, there are speculations that she may be half angel, half human. This could explain why she surprisingly recovered so quickly after being shot in the abdomen twice. Rumor has it that Charlotte knows Chloe's true identity.

"In season two, Lucifer is actively spending time with Chloe Decker even though he knows she makes him vulnerable," Henderson explained. "What does that say about him? What does that say about his subconscious? Why Chloe affects him... will be the question we will be answering in season two."

If one thing is for certain, Lucifer will continue with his therapy. He is still trying to manage his issues day by day and his trusty shrink will be there to listen to him. "We have a lot of fun with that whole therapy side of it but we also scratched some real truths as well," Ellis added.

Tune in to the season 2 premiere of "Lucifer" on Monday, Sept. 19 at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
