Fox network's comic-book themed drama, "Lucifer" will soon hit the small screens for its sophomore season, with more episodes to delve deeper into Lucifer's (Tom Ellis) origins.

"Dexter" alumna Aimee Garcia was recently confirmed as one of the new additions to the cast, and she will be a series regular. Garcia will portray the role of Ella Lopez, the newest forensic scientist in the department. She was raised in a rough Detroit neighborhood, with a family of strong Catholic faith. She has opposing personality traits partly because she grew up with five brothers who are always protective of her. Ella's belief in both science and faith makes her interesting for Lucifer and the rest of the department.

Lucifer's mother Charlotte will also be introduced next season, with "Battlestar Galactica" star Tricia Helfer to portray the key recurring role. Charlotte's return in Lucifer's life will definitely be the central storyline of the upcoming season according to showrunner Joe Henderson. "The biggest question is going to be, 'Who is Mom?' We're excited to figure out who we're going to cast because we think it's going to be a big, cool, meaty role for someone. I'm excited to see who we can get and what direction we take it in, lucifer-amenadiel-tall because that's Season 2. Season 1 was the story of a wayward son dealing with his father issues; Season 2 is Mom," Henderson told TV Line back in April when the first season wrapped up.

As for Charlotte's backstory, she has been trapped in hell for thousands of years by her former husband God. She now roams free on Earth, and she will reunite with her son Lucifer. When the two come together, viewers will see that the mother and son have so much in common. Like Lucifer, she is "fearless and has a strong conviction for who she is and what she deserves." Unfortunately, they don't have the same belief when it comes to the subject of humanity.  "Everything that fascinates Lucifer about people repels Mom – a disdain that's highlighted by that fact that Mom's trapped in a human body for her stay on Earth. Lucifer's desperate to find out what Mom's up to, but she claims that all she wants is to spend time with her sons again," Deadline reports. Is she as innocent as she appears to be?

Tune in to the much-awaited season 2 premiere of "Lucifer" which is scheduled to air on Sept. 19, Monday at 9 p.m. EST on Fox.
