There are no signs that Longmire season 4 will go ahead as the show has not been picked up by another streaming service or cable network yet. Longmire was cancelled in August by the A&E Network after three seasons. This led to a strong reaction from the large number of fans that the show has and it took a long while to die down.

According to the Wall Street Journal, a major reason for the show's cancellation was the average age of its viewers was over 60. In its third season Longmire's ratings had only fallen slightly and on average 5.6 million watched the third season. However, it was still A&E Network's second most popular show coming in just behind Duck Dynasty.

Since the news of its cancellation broke in August, the studio responsible for Longmire, Warner Horizon, has been pitching the series to various cable networks and digital streaming services.

Deadline is reporting that among those interested in picking up the series are Amazon, Hulu and Netflix. These services Deadline notes will be a perfect home for a series like Longmire which has an older audience.

The current news about Longmire is that it will probably be picked up by USA Network, according to entertainment website Breathecast. There has been no official word from the producers of the show about this new development, and so it is too soon to tell if the pickup will go ahead.

If the USA Network does pickup the show it will mean that fans will get a fourth season this year. Otherwise they might have to wait until 2015 to see the fourth season. Several other shows failed to find a home after they were cancelled and shopped to other networks, Terra Nova being one of them. So if a pickup has to happen it has to happen within months or Longmire could be gone for good.
