Netflix has announced that it would order a 10-episode fourth season of "Longmire" from A&E which earlier cancelled the western drama series after three seasons.

The A&E Networks' cancellation of "Longmire" earlier this year surprised many fans since it was A&E's most popular drama series for three years, bringing in around 5.6 million viewers per week.

The cancelation was seen by many as a result of the finding that the average age of its viewers is at 60. This age group fell out of the coveted 18-49 demographic that most advertisers like, forcing A&E to ditch the show.

However, the streaming service Netflix did not mind attracting an older audience that was extremely dedicated to the show. This audience even remained loyal to the show after its cancellation and campaigned for its resurrection.

The show is fashioned on the character of Walt Longmire who is a central figure in the books penned by Craig Johnson. In the series, Robert Taylor plays Longmire, sheriff of Absaroka County, while Katee Sackhoff plays Victoria Moretti, Longmire's deputy. The series also features Lou Diamond Phillips, Bailey Chase and Adam Bartley.

While the series is billed as a western, it is actually a contemporary take on the age-old western formula and features some fine performances from its cast.

According to Deadline, the fourth season will start off a few minutes after the events that were seen in the Season 3 finale. In that episode Longmire found out who murdered his wife and then starts to pursue the killer.

Deputy Branch Connally (played by Bailey Chase), who was fired for being error-prone, thinks he has stumbled upon the killer. He then confronts the suspected killer and a gun is fired.

With the season ending in a cliffhanger, fans have been waiting to see what exactly took place and whether Longmire and Connally are still in one piece.
