'Legend of Zelda' news 2016: Christina Grimmie fans petition Nintendo, ask for character to be named after murdered 'The Voice' alum

Fans of Christina Grimmie have launched a petition asking Nintendo to name a character in its popular high-fantasy action-adventure video game series "The Legend of Zelda" after the late singer.
The recent death of the 22-year-old "The Voice" alum shocked fans across the globe. Grimmie died of gunshot wounds inflicted after a concert performance in Orlando, Florida on Saturday, June 11. The young singer was shot by a disgruntled fan as she was signing autographs at The Plaza Live. After firing multiple shots at Grimmie, her killer turned the gun on himself.
Following the singer's shocking and untimely death, many of her fans are asking Nintendo to immortalize Grimmie in its upcoming "Legend of Zelda" for the Wii U.
While many know the artist for her beautiful voice and her time on the NBC singing competition "The Voice," in which she was coached by Adam Levine, Grimmie's long-time fans know that the singer was an avid fan of video games, particularly of the "Legend of Zelda" franchise.
According to Grimmie fan Ian Tan, who started a change.org petition requesting Nintendo to name one of the "Legend of Zelda" characters after the singer, Grimmie was a fan of all Nintendo franchises, including "Super Smash Brothers," "Pokemon," "Mario," and "EarthBound." Tan also pointed out that Grimmie's love for "The Legend of Zelda" was immortalized in her YouTube username "ZeldaxLove64."
In 2010, Grimmie recorded and uploaded a YouTube video of herself singing the Gerudo Valley theme from "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask" overlapped with popular songs by Christina Aguilera, Eminem, and B.o.B.
"She was an amazing singer, songwriter, daughter, sister and friend," Tan wrote. "She was impossibly bright, loving and talented and will continue to inspire us all."
As of this writing, the petition has collected more than 34,000 signatures, just 752 short of the 35,000 goal. According to the petition, whether Grimmie is honored as a non-player character or mentioned in an Easter egg, "it would be a beautiful act to let her be memorialized in the universe she always cherished."
