'Last Man on Earth' renewed for a 3rd season by FOX

FOX Entertainment president David Madden announced on March 24 that "The Last Man on Earth" will be renewed for season 3, along with another FOC comedy series "Brooklyn Nine-Nine."
The post-apocalyptic comedy series is scheduled to return on Sunday, April 3 (9:30-10:00 p.m. ET/PT). Reprising his role as main protagonist Phil Miller is Will Forte, who also happens to be the creator of the show. The story will pick up when Carol, who is played by actress Kristen Schaal will be "back on the campaign for repopulation" together with Phil, as reported by Comingsoon.net.
Despite the apprehension with regards to how the show will take shape before its mid-season premiere over a year ago, 'The Last Man on Earth' proved itself to be worthy of a season renewal. "Last Man on Earth has proven itself to be a clever, silly and indulgent look at what it would be like to have the empty world as one's playroom, as well as how certain sitcom tropes would work in such a setting. Having a killer ensemble definitely helped that out too," as Cinemablend described the show.
Since its first season aired on March 1, 2015, "The Last Man on Earth" garnered mostly positive reviews and high ratings in viewership. In a report by TV by the numbers, the comedy series received 5.75 million viewers for its hour-long premiere. To boot, it had an average rating of 2.4 among adults ages 18-49, making it the evening's most-watched broadcast series in the said demographic. The second season's ratings declined with only 3.4 million viewers for the premiere, causing fans to think that the show will not be airing for another season. However, the show proved itself once more as a contender in the young male viewer demographic earning its way to a third season.
"The Last Man on Earth" airs Sundays on FOX. However, viewers need to pay close attention to the network's schedule since it is quite inconsistent in airing new episodes.
