'Last Chance U' season 2 news: Netflix renews docu-series; former EMCC players weigh in on dramatic season 1

Netflix's gripping docuseries about the world of college football "Last Chance U" has been officially renewed for a second season, featuring a new set of trainees who dream to become future National Football League (NFL) stars.
Just weeks after wrapping up its first season, the show earned an early renewal from Netflix — joining the network's growing number of interesting docuseries, including "Making a Murderer" and "Chef's Table." Players from Jackson State University (JSU) made appearances in the past season but it remains to be seen if they'll be back for season 2.
For the uninitiated, "Last Chance U" is a docuseries featuring young men who strive to become renowned NFL players. The newest recruits will join the undefeated football team of East Mississippi Community College (EMCC). Known as the EMCC Lions, the team made a dent in the field of junior college sports after winning three consecutive national championships.
Speaking with The Clarion Ledger, former EMCC players currently playing for JSU DeShawn Tillman and Dario Robinson shared their thoughts on the previous season. "It was hard to watch, really, it was hard to watch," JSU's defensive end Tiilman said. "I knew it was coming out and I was anticipating watching it. But then I actually sat down and watched the first episode and stuff started replaying in your head, this actually did happen," he added. Robinson, JSU's corner, on the other hand, felt that the events in season 1 was "good for publicity."
The first season featured EMCC's dramatic disqualification from the playoffs following a brawl with the Mississippi Delta.
Despite attracting elite athletes, the EMCC Lions had their fair share of trainees who have been held back by behavioral problems and poor academic performance. Under the leadership of coach Buddy Stephens, EMCC offers one of the country's most successful but least known sports programs for students. More than 20 players graduate every year from esteemed universities, with nine former EMCC players currently playing in the NFL.
Netflix has yet to announce a premiere date for "Last Chance U" season 2.
