'Kingdom Hearts' news, updates: 3 new KH games to arrive to PS4 on 2017; confusing titles explained

Square Enix has recently confirmed that new "Kingdom Hearts" games will be released next year.

 According to CNET, the company has announced the Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5 Remix games will be re-released for the PS4 on March 31, 2017. The release will just be a few months after Kingdom Hearts 2.8, which will be out in January. Three "Kingdom Hearts" games are currently announced for release. One of the titles is a brand new game, while two are compilations of older games with some added features.

Kingdom Hearts 3

First introduced at E3 2013, "Kingdom Hearts" 3 is the latest installment in the franchise. It is up for release early next year, since the game is currently in its final stages of development. The new title is the first main entry in the series to appear on a console since 2006.

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue

Set to be launched in January, "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue" is a compilation of three titles. The first one is the "Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD," a high-definition port of the 2012 3DS game of the same name. "Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep–A Fragmentary Passage" is the second title in the compilation, which features a playable episode of the story after "Birth by Sleep." The last title is"Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover," an HD movie centered on the story behind the Foretellers.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX + HD 2.5 ReMIX

Scheduled to be out for PS4 in March, "Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX + HD 2.5 ReMIX" is  a compilation o two compilations. The two titles were previously sold separately on PS3 but fans requested a PS4 version, so Square Enix combined them together in one package announced just last week.

Debuted in 2002, the "Kingdom Hearts" series is one ofthe biggest franchises in the gaming industry, with over 21 million copies sold since its release. The series joins other titles which recently released HD remasters, including "Skyrim" and "Bioshock."
