"Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8" was slated to premiere in December this year. The Final Chapter Prologue, however, has been delayed, and will instead be released in Japan on Jan. 12 and in North America and Europe on Jan. 28.

Square Enix recently announced the new launch date at the Tokyo Game Show, which was held from Sept. 15 to Sept. 18. The Japanese video game developer released a trailer showcasing the new date.

The game is reportedly delayed because the developers were busy working on "Final Fantasy 15," which has been delayed as well. Translators picked up the information from a tweet sent by director Tetsuya Nomura. The upcoming installment of the "Final Fantasy" franchise is now expected to launch in Nov. 29 of this year.

The trailer featured new scenes from "Kingdom Heats x [chi] Back Cover" and "Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage." Furthermore, the trailer revealed that the game will consist of a remastered version of "Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance," which is a spin-off released for the 3DS in 2012. The Back Cover is a new tale about the Foretellers which will be in HD cinematics. Furthermore, "A Fragmentary Passage" is a new game that will be set after the events on Birth by Sleep.

The trailer also presented a remixed song of "Simple and Clean" by J-pop artist Utada Hikaru. Fans of the franchise are definitely familiar with the song, as it was popularized in the first "Kingdom Hearts" video game launched in 2002.

"Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8" is a PlayStation 4 exclusive, but the Final Chapter Prologue will also be made compatible with PlayStation 4 Pro. Previous "Kingdom Hearts HD" collections were PlayStation 3 exclusive, but according to co-director Tai Yasue, the studio is considering the possibility of adding the previous titles to PS4 in the near future.
