'Kingdom Hearts 3' in the works; 'Kingdom Hearts 2.8' should be a preview of the game

While everyone is seemingly interested in and eagerly awaiting "Kingdom Hearts 3," game developer Square Enix has revealed that there should be other things that could make the wait a little worth it.
It is reported that the upcoming "Kingdom Hearts 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue" will be a small preview on what "Kingdom Hearts 3" will be.
This means that the prologue will have some characters that will also be in "Kingdom Hearts 3" and the storyline should be intertwined in more ways than one.
The "Kingdom Hearts" franchise took a back seat at the recently concluded Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, but game co-director Tai Yasue revealed great news that should keep "Kingdom Hearts" fans happy.
According to GameSpot, Yasue suggested that the prologue is important, saying, "And I think from Kingdom Hearts 2.8, as the numbering suggests, it's really necessary before you play Kingdom Hearts 3. 0.2, with you playing with Aqua, who is trapped inside the Dark World, that connects to Birth by Sleep. You experience her sorrow and torment. And she's a Keyblade Master, and her destiny is really intertwined with Sora's in Kingdom Hearts 3, so learning about her adventure, and her pain, really gives meaning to when you start Kingdom Hearts 3."
Tetsuya Nomura, the game's director, also revealed that the prologue will have some elements that are similar to the game like free running and open world exploration, as reported by Yibada.
Regarding the release dates of the games, ChristianToday revealed that "Kingdom Hearts 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue" will be out by December, while "Kingdom Hearts 3" still has no release information at the moment. However, Nomura did say that a Japan release would be slightly earlier than the worldwide release.
