People around the world have started the social media trend "147NotJustaNumber" to remember the 148 victims slain in the recent terrorist attack at Garissa State University in Kenya.

Those who lost loved ones in last week's brutal attack have used the social media campaign #147NotJustaNumber to share photos and biographies of the people they lost.

The attack happened in the early morning hours of April 2, when masked gunmen allegedly belonging to the Al-Shabaab terror group killed 148 victims, mostly Christian students, at Garissa State University in Kenya.

The stories of those young people lost in last week's terror attack have received international attention because of the #147NotJustaNumber social media campaign.

According to Time magazine, one of the students killed, Gideon Kirui, had been able to attend the university after his village raised money for him to go.

"Jackson Mibei searching for his 22 yr old son Gideon Kirui. Whole village had raised money for him to go to University #147notjustanumber," Ory Okolloh Mwangi tweeted.

"We will name them. One by one. They are these 'young Africans' we speak of all the time. Chasing dreams. #147notjustanumber," Mwangi added.

Pope Francis also recently condemned the terror attack, calling it "senseless brutality."

"In union with all people of good will throughout the world, His Holiness condemns this act of senseless brutality and prays for a change of heart among its perpetrators," Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin said in a statement on behalf of Pope Francis.
