Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole new album release date news: Album may still push through in 2016 with collaboration between Drake and Lamar

Two of the greatest rap artists of this generation, Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole, announced in 2013 that they were planning to have a special collaboration album, but there have been no news regarding the development of the said album and when it will be released. The much-anticipated album of Lamar and J. Cole, which was rumored to be titled "Reminiscing," has been laid in quiet three years after their announcement. Due to the lack of updates on the album, many are thinking that the collaboration may not push through after all.
One of the rumors has it that the busy schedule of Lamar and J. Cole is the cause of delay of the project. Fans of the rappers will have to wait a little longer before the collaboration comes into fruition.
Top Dawg Entertainment president Dave Free said in an interview with MTV last January that although the joint album is taking up much time to happen, it does not mean that the project will no longer push through and it is still possible to be released this year.
"Everything's a possibility, but I'ma say this, too: Kendrick and Cole are in a place in their carrers and in their lives where they have to keep going. Of course they're two of the biggest rappers out, but they still have to keep grinding. There's so much work that they have to continue to do," Free told MTV.
One factor that may be holding back the Lamar-J. Cole collaboration is the reported project of Lamar with another hit-maker rapper, Drake. Bitbag reported that the joint project of Lamar and Drake may be the reason of the former's project with J. Cole not happening.
If ever the "Reminiscing" joint album will be done with Drake instead of J. Cole, many of the fans who have been waiting for Lamar and J. Cole collaboration in years will be disappointed, and someone from the industry has already expressed his discontentment regarding the rumored Lamar-Drake partnership.
Popular rap lyrics writer Royce Da 5'9" shared his insights about Lamar and Drake in an interview with TV Vlad via XXL. "Kendrick Lamar is the exception to every rule in hip-hop. He sits in that very successful MC space by himself but he takes that hit. He doesn't sell the same number of records as Drake does. He may have to take that hit in sales to get the Grammy's and receive the creative accolades," Royce said.
