U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said this week that recent comments by a top Iranian religious leader regarding the recent nuclear arms deal reached between world powers and the Middle Eastern country prove "very troubling."

Kerry told Al Arabiya television this week that recent comments made by Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei are "very disturbing," although he doesn't know what to make of the comments at this time.

"I don't know how to interpret it at this point in time, except to take it at face value, that that's his policy," the Secretary of State told the Saudi-owned television station.

"But I do know that often comments are made publicly and things can evolve that are different. If it is the policy, it's very disturbing, it's very troubling," he added.

Last weekend, Khamenei said in a speech that the recent deal reached between western powers and Iran regarding its nuclear arms production will not change the Middle Eastern country's relationship with the U.S.

The Supreme Leader of Iran went on to add that the Iranian government will not change its position on the "arrogant American government," adding that he supports Iranians who called for the destruction of the U.S. and Israel.

Recently, the United States announced that it had reached a deal with Iran regarding its nuclear arms production that included the lifting of millions of dollars in economic sanctions in return for Iran's halt to its nuclear program.

The deal received criticism from some politicians in the U.S. who argued Iran is not to be trusted and will continue a nuclear arms production despite the recent, years-long negotiations.
