The Duggar family of "19 Kids and Counting" announced via social media this week that Jill Duggar and husband Derick Dillard recently welcomed their first child into the world.

Photos and messages posted to the Duggar family's official Facebook page indicate that the infant was born at a local Arkansas hospital weighing 9 pounds and 10 ounces. People magazine also reported Tuesday that Israel David was welcomed into the world at around 11:49 p.m. on Monday, April 6.

"We are so thankful for a healthy Mom and baby!" Jill's parents wrote on Facebook on Tuesday. "Love this sweet baby Israel! We are happy grandparents and we promise more pictures soon!"

More photos from the birth show the newborn being swaddled as he sits in his mother's lap, while another photo shows doting father Dillard standing over his new son while wearing hospital scrubs.

The couple had previously told media outlets that they were planning a homebirth for Israel, but the photos recently added to Facebook appear to show the family celebrating Israel's birth in a hospital setting.

While some comments on Facebook questioned why Jill decided to do a hospital birth instead of a homebirth, other comments gave thanks that the couple's newborn baby was healthy.

"I wish people were more relieved that she and the baby are healthy, not that she is in a hospital and not at home like she wanted. She was past her due date and you cannot control everything when having a baby. I guarantee Jill and Derick made the best choices for them and the baby. The most important thing are mom and baby are healthy!! Congrats to the new parents!!" Angie Neal wrote on a Facebook post that shared a photo of the newborn.
