"Jessica Jones" will have a huge behind-the-scenes shakeup, as executive producer Melissa Rosenberg recently revealed that all 13 episodes of the upcoming season 2 will be helmed by female directors.

According to reports, the acclaimed superhero series is standing up against female under-representation in the entertainment industry following an unprecedented mandate by Rosenberg. The EP, who is also known for writing the "Twilight" film franchise, spoke about her decision at a panel on "Diversifying Entertainment" at the University of Southern California's Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.

During the discussion, Rosenberg explained that she initially planned to just increase the number of female directors for season 2. However, when she announced her plan to the production staff, an unnamed co-worker suggested hiring exclusively women to direct every episode. Production company Marvel was completely on board with the idea and the mandate was eventually set for the second season to be framed from a female's perspective.

As Gizmodo points out, the first season of "Jessica Jones" received critical praise for its portrayal of female friendship, complex female lead and how it explored the subject of sexual assault and abuse. Although the series had more than the usual number of women working behind the screen with its female showrunner and a few female writers and directors, it's still far less than there should be.

"Jessica Jones" is actually the second TV program this year to hire exclusively female directors. In September, Ava DuVernay announced that her OWN series, "Queen Sugar," had an all-female set of directors for one whole season, including some who had never worked on episodic shows before. DuVernay mentioned in an interview that she wanted to create an opportunity for women to take part in the TV industry because only a few programs do so.

Netflix has yet to announce a definitive premiere date for the second season of "Jessica Jones."
