"Jessica Jones" may still have a long way to go before its much-anticipated small screen return, but showrunner Melissa Rosenberg recently revealed new teasers for the upcoming sophomore season.

Before fans see Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) in her standalone series, the superheroine detective is set to appear in the new Netflix mini-series "The Defenders." To continue the fight against evil forces, she will be teaming up with other heroes in the Marvel universe including Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Daredevil.

In a recent sit-down interview with The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Melissa Rosenberg mentioned that more details about "Jessica Jones" will be revealed once "The Defenders" officially premieres. For now, however, she said she's very excited for fans to see "something new" in the hit action series.

"There are new, surprising elements to all the characters," she teased. "New and surprising relationships, who comes into each other's orbits and why. No one is interested in having our characters keeping on doing the same things in the same ways. That's what they do on network television. This world, you push your characters into new places they've never been before. That's what gives us the most excitement."

Throughout season one, Jessica's attempts to move forward with her life were always thwarted by the show's villain Kilgrave. Now that he's out of the picture, the EP confirmed that season 2 will explore what's possible for the titular heroine moving forward. Rosenberg, who previously served as an executive producer for "Dexter," admitted that working on the hit Showtime drama made her realize that the goal is to advance the lead character, not to cure him/her.

"With Dexter, the moment he felt guilt or accepted that he was 'bad,' the show's over. He's no longer a sociopath," she told Esquire. "The equivalent for us would be if Jessica somehow recovered from the damage that had been done to her. People don't just heal, you don't go through that just to say, 'Oh, he got arrested, he's in jail, I'm OK now. That trauma is a huge part of who she is now."

Netflix has yet to announce a premiere date for the second season of "Jessica Jones."
