'Jessica Jones' season 2 spoilers, plot news: Mike Colter on Luke and Jessica's breakup, Trish Walker's backstory to be explored
Netflix's superhero series "Jessica Jones" might not be returning for its second season anytime soon, but fans will still see the heroine in another Marvel mini-series titled "The Defenders" next year.

Season 1 left off with Jessica (Krysten Ritter) dealing with the heartbreak of saying goodbye to Luke Cage (Mike Colter). In an interview with Time, Colter weighed in on his character's breakup with Jessica and why it had to happen. "By the time the series ended, Jessica had brought on quite a bit of baggage," he explained, "things he didn't want to deal with. I think that there was promise in their relationship at first. Maybe he was hoping this would be someone to move on with in life. But it's a drama, so it can't be that easy. You can't get to happily ever after in a season."
Aside from new characters being introduced, there are speculations that the plot will touch on Trish Walker's (Rachael Taylor) past. Since season 1 focused on Jessica's backstory and her PTSD, the new chapter might finally reveal more layers of her adoptive sister's personality and her relationship with her mother. While waiting for the heroine's return to the small screen, fans can get their copies of the new "Jessica Jones" comic book series set to be released by Marvel in the Fall.
Creators Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos will be in charge of the new comic series, along with artist David Mack providing the cover. The storyline follows Jessica as she solves mysteries from the biggest events in the Marvel Universe which are left unexplained.
"We're going to open up a book where Jessica's world has blown up in her face," Bendis said in an interview with IGN of the new series. "She's at a place you'll least expect her. You're going to find all of her relationships have altered. And we're slowly going to find out why. I do like writing Jessica where we have to figure out 'why this has happened.'"
Netflix has yet to announce a premiere date for "Jessica Jones" season 2.
