"Jessica Jones" season 2 has already been confirmed, but fans will have to wait a bit longer to see the superheroine return to her own standalone series. After finally killing Kilgrave (David Tennant) in the first season, Jessica (Krysten Ritter) might be facing multiple villains when season 2 airs.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg said it is impossible to top Tennant's performance as the main antagonist last season. Without giving too much away, she hinted that multiple villains will be making their way into Jessica's life as the story progresses. Rumor has it that Ruby Thursday, Jigsaw and Nuke are the three Marvel villains who will be introduced in season 2.

Meanwhile, Jessica and Trish's (Rachael Taylor) relationship is one important highlight in season 1 that will continue when the show returns. Viewers followed how their affection for each other grew, with Jessica even telling Trish she loved her towards the end of the season. According to Rosenberg, their interesting dynamics is one of the themes she would like to explore in the future.

"I'm interested in continuing to explore the relationship between Trish and Jessica," she said. "That is the core relationship in the piece. It is about female friendship, it is about how friends evolve — they're sisters, really — and it's about how they evolve and ping off each other. I'm interested in relationships, whether they be romantic, or family, or friends, or professional — that's what's interesting to me, is Jessica in relationship to people," Rosenberg added.

Though it may be possible to see Trish and Jessica in a romantic relationship, Rosenberg stressed that she is more interested in their backstory, connection and the amount of trust they have in each other. Aside from Trish, season 2 will touch on the story arcs of other supporting characters who play important roles in Jessica's life.

Season 1 tackled various social issues including rape and domestic violence. However, Rosenberg has yet to conceptualize a social issue to focus on for season 2. She clarified that their main goal now is to feature different angles of Jessica that fans have never seen before.

"Jessica Jones" season 2 is expected to premiere in 2018 but Netflix has yet to announce an official release date.
