Jeremy Lin news: Nets to have a better season because of Lin?

When someone like Jeremy Lin plays for Brooklyn Nets, he is bound to be mobbed by the media — and this because of what he can do to improve on the Nets' lousy record.

Apparently, the so-called Linsanity that caught on in 2012 has not faded into obscurity. For one, scribes know that he played great basketball for the Knicks, leading the team to a 7–1 record and averaging 25 points and 9.5 assists in that short span. Unknown and undrafted, Lin added luster to the Knicks who were then desperate for success. For someone who came from Harvard, a school known for academics rather than athletics, Lin was the discovery of the hour.

Lin's heritage — a Californian born of Taiwanese parents — emphasized his basketball skills, but such skills served as the basis for his popularity.

After spending time with the Charlotte Hornets as point guard, Lin will be stepping in for the Brooklyn Nets also as point guard, and people expect him to bring energy and score the ball. So far, Lin has not fallen in love with the outside shot, even with the game becoming more perimeter-oriented.

Still, despite that deficiency, he was considered instrumental in the Hornets' resurgence from obscurity to their best record since 2004. In Charlotte, he averaged 11.7 points and 26.3 minutes of play, mostly coming off the bench.

As the season comes up, Lin will be teaming up with Brook Lopez, a seven-foot center who can take jump shots from the outside, dunk, jump hooks and such stuff — every which way. However, Lin has to take the ball into his hands, a spot that the Nets were deficient in last season's 21–61 debacle. So far, Lopez and Lin seem to blend well.

With Jeremy Lin, who has recently signed a three-year $36 million contract, the Nets should see an improvement in the ball's movement in the court.
