'Jane the Virgin' season 3 to explore characters' growth, lead star Gina Rodriguez sports new blond hair

Will Jane be a young widow after Michael got shot in season 2\'s finale? | The CW

After a huge cliffhanger in the season 2 finale, viewers are wondering what lies ahead for Jane and the rest of her family when "Jane the Virgin" season 3 premieres in the Fall.

Season 2 left off with Jane (Gina Rodriguez) and Michael's (Brett Dier) wedding day turning into a disaster when Michael gets shot by Sin Rostro (Bridget Regan). Speaking with Parade, Rodriguez promises the new season will bring all sorts of emotions and it will surely not disappoint. "What I can say is that it's really good," she hinted. "It's really, really strong. There's going to be a lot of growth, a lot of character growth for everyone in the cast. And you know, in true Jane fashion, it's going to be a roller coaster!"

The 32-year-old added that she only know little about the upcoming season but it's still top secret. "The little bit that I do know, I honestly think that they would fire me and get somebody else to play Jane if I told you!" Rodriguez joked.

A few weeks ago, Rodriguez decided to go blonde just in time for the summer season. The actress recently posted an Instagram photo showing off her new golden locks with the caption: "I mean I did have fun as a brunette..."

In an interview with E! News, celebrity hair stylist/colorist Stacy Heitman said Rodriguez wanted some help with shedding the impression Jane left on her. "I gathered that she felt like her hair was weighing her down," she explained, so we both agreed we must go lighter!"

Production of the hit comedy drama begins mid-August. As previously reported, season 3 will touch on Jane's growth while juggling various roles in her personal life. Now that she is a wife and a mother, the next season features how she will deal with the recent tragic events involving her drama-filled family.

Tune in to the premiere of "Jane the Virgin" season 3 on Monday, October 17 at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
