'Jane the Virgin' season 3 spoilers: Jane and Rafael argue in episode 2; Showrunner teases Rafael's 'surprising love interest'

Jane (Gina Rodriguez) and Rafael's (Justin Baldoni) conflicting co-parenting styles lead to a heated argument in the upcoming episode of The CW's comedy-drama "Jane the Virgin" season 3.
Titled "Chapter Forty-Six," next week's episode will center on struggling relationships. According to the official synopsis for episode 2, Rafael finally admits that he is over Jane, and their co-parenting style is put to the test when they argue over the best preschool Mateo should go to. Meanwhile, Xo (Andrea Navedo) is worried that Alba (Ivonne Coll) will discover her secret and how it will affect their relationship. Rogelio (Jaime Camil) begins preparing to make his American TV debut, particularly after he learns that his rival is making the transition as well. While trying to find new dirt on Rafael,"Anezka" (Yael Grobglas) finds herself caught up in an unexpected romance.
Monday's premiere finally resolved the major cliffhanger in season 2, and fans were able to breathe a sigh of relief after it was revealed that Michael (Brett Dier) survived his life-threatening surgery and is on the road to recovery. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman hinted that after Jane and Michael's wedding, viewers can expect Rafael to make some huge changes in his life as well.
"He's a character that has to move on. I feel like once he moved on, that was going to open us up to a lot more complications and difficulties," Urman explained. "[Co-parenting's] a lot easier when you're not hearing from someone with a different opinion. It, to me, opens up a world of possibilities and problems and like real life things that you have to navigate if the father of the baby is not in your household."
Urman also teased a "surprising love interest" for Rafael to be introduced later in the third season. Since the mystery character has a connection to Jane, fans should look forward to how the titular heroine reacts to Rafael's new relationship.
The third season of "Jane the Virgin" airs every Monday night at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
