Last season's cliffhanger suggested that the third season of "Jane The Virgin" could be a sad one for the titular character Jane (Gina Rodriguez). But perhaps it could provide an opportunity for Jane to rekindle an old flame. A dying or soon to be dead character might be the reason why the show is bringing in another hot man for Jane.

To recap, Jane's fiancé Michael (Brett Dier) was shot last season. Many fans have speculated about Michael's impending death, and it seems like it's actually going to happen in season 3.

If Michael is dying, then it must be why "Young and Restless" actor Miles Gaston Villanueva was cast as Sam, Jane's childhood crush. In the first two seasons, the show was basically fueled by the love triangle between Jane, Michael and Rafael (Justin Baldoni). Hence, if Michael is going to die, they will need another competitor to play the part.

TV Line reported Villanueva's role in the upcoming season of "Jane the Virgin." According to the news outlet, Jane met Sam way before she met Michael and Rafael. Sam is hot and intelligent, a character who reportedly will have a big impact on Jane's present life.

However, Dier's appearance in the first table read for season 3 is making everyone confused. If he has enough lines for a table read, then his character Michael will be strong enough to speak in season 3.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly last May, showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman revealed that fans will know Michael's fate in the first episode.

Though little has been said about the upcoming season, the members of the cast shared that season 3 will be better and crazier than the previous two.

Rodriguez said viewers will see a lot of character growth this season. "And you know, in true Jane fashion, it's going to be a roller coaster!" the actress added. Baldoni told The Huffington Post the same thing. According to the actor, the upcoming season will be "crazier than season 2, which was crazier than season 1." Baldoni also revealed that he will be directing an episode this season but did not share further details.

"Jane the Virgin" will return for its third season on Monday, Oct. 17, at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW.
