'Jane the Virgin' season 3 air date, news: Michael's fate teased; Xo's ex-boyfriend appears

The premiere date of "Jane the Virgin" season 3 is fast approaching and fans are already excited to know what will happen next especially after the cliffhanger season 2 finale. Reports said the upcoming season will be packed with major drama although the humor and love will still be there.

In an interview with The CW Television Network, the stars of the series teased some of the things that will be unfolding in the season premiere. After Brett Dier's character Michael Cordero Jr. got shot on the night of his wedding, things are going to be very different and heavy. It's still uncertain how things will end for him.

Justin Baldoni, who plays the Rafael Solano, said he felt like the first episode is just "wrong." He admitted that after reading the script, he got "a little sick" to his stomach. Ivonne Coll, who portrays grandma Alba Villanueva, also described the premiere episode to be a shocker, saying it's like a "rollercoaster." Dier in the meantime said it's going to be a very good first episode.

But will Michael survive the ordeal? Jaimie Camil said he hoped Michael would get through the gunshot as his character, Rogelio de la Vega, will be devastated if he loses his son-in-law. Rogelio and Michael share a good relationship so this is expected.

Entertainment Weekly detailed that season 3 will pick up immediately after the events from the finale. Jane Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez) will be crying her heart out over Michael's situation. Rodriguez also revealed that fans will be seeing Jane in the "lowest of lows."

Moreover, Xo Villanueva's (Andrea Navedo) ex-boyfriend Esteban is coming back to make a mess out of things. Deadline reported that the character will be played by "Desperate Housewives" alum Ricardo Chavira. Details regarding his character are still sparse but it's said that he could potentially be the father of Xo's baby.

"Jane the Virgin" season 3 premieres on Oct. 17 at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW.
