The Islamic State militant group sent a threatening and ominous message to Americans on Monday, threatening to drown westerners "in blood" if U.S. airstrikes kill militants in Iraq.

The threat was posted in a video by the Islamic State militant group and included photographs of Americans previously killed during the Iraq occupation from 2003 to 2011. The video threatens to kill Americans in "any place" if current U.S. airstrikes injure or kill Islamic State militants. "We will drown all of you in blood," the video adds.

Currently, the U.S. has been conducting airstrikes on the Islamic State in an attempt to weaken the militant group's power in Iraq. Recent American airstrikes have enabled Kurdish forces to regain territory as the Islamic State threatens to seize Baghdad. The al-Qaeda offshoot has already conquered multiple towns in Iraq's north, including the country's second largest town of Mosul.

On Monday, President Obama took a break from his family vacation in Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts to address the current Iraq crisis, saying he hopes the newly-formed government under Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki will work to combat the Islamic State by joining forces with other countries.

[The Islamic State] poses a threat to all Iraqis," the president said, "They actively recruit foreign fighters to push their hateful ideology."

Great Britain also announced Monday that its campaign against Islamic State militants was no longer a brief humanitarian aid mission, but rather said that fighting the insurgents would last "weeks and months."

Prime Minister David Cameron clarified that Great Britain would not be putting boots on the ground in Iraq.

"I want to be absolutely clear to you and to families watching at home," he said. "Britain is not going to get involved in another war in Iraq. We are not going to be putting boots on the ground. We are not going to be sending in the British Army."
