iPhone 8 Plus release date, news and specs rumors: more premium variant may take dual-OIS feature

Since Apple has begun releasing a more premium variant in its traditional launchings beginning from iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, most tech mills have taken it as a cue that the Cupertino-based firm is treating the other version as having the "better-equipped" camera system.

Take the recently unwrapped iPhone 7 Plus as an example. The larger variant between the two has been more marketed to be the device for the camera aficionados. The device has also been marked to be the first iPhone entry to sport a dual-camera setup, which was unveiled to rave reviews. As such, it wouldn't be too surprising to learn now that Apple is gearing up one of its upcoming flagship smartphones to get treated with further optical wonders to the tune of a dual optical image stabilization (OIS).

A recent research note from reliable KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has indicated that Apple may be bringing in its 10th-anniversary iteration in 2017 a dual OIS in its dual-camera system. All of these may get equipped accordingly in the iPhone 8 Plus variant, much like the company had marketed to its current release.

Furthermore, Kuo has speculated that Apple may bring OIS to the telephoto lens in the future iPhone Plus model. He shared, "We believe Apple will add OIS function to the telephoto CCM in order to enhance the selling points of next year's new iPhone. We think photo quality and optical zoom range may both improve as a result. We expect the telephoto lens will be redesigned to support OIS in the telephoto CCM, with challenges likely coming from: (1) the need to increase the image circle of the telephoto lens, which will lead to longer calibration time and a more complex assembly processes; and (2) a redesign of the telephoto lens, as an increased image circle will result in degraded photo quality around the corners."

Apart from the now-traditional 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch variants, Apple is also rumored to introduce a 5-inch variant. A talk of an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display to either one of these entries has also been speculated.

iPhone 8 Plus is scheduled to be launched alongside iPhone 9 on Sept. 2017.
