iPhone 7 Release Date Specs Rumors: New Phone To Have 'Astounding' Camera

Just weeks after the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were released in September, rumors have started circulating that Apple is already planning the iPhone 7, which is expected to be released at a similar time in 2015. According to these rumors, the next iPhone would have an "astounding" camera that delivers DSLR-quality photos.

The rumor was first mentioned by John Gruber, the host of "The Talk Show," who stated that a "birdie" had informed him about the big jump in camera quality. According to Gruber, Apple is looking to re-gig its iPhone lineup by adding a premium camera to replace its existing iSight camera. The iSight camera has been with the iPhone line since 2011. It was recently upgraded with optical image stabilization in the iPhone 6 Plus.

Reviewers say that if Apple opts for a completely new iPhone camera, this will not surprise them. Apple may still want a new camera despite the fact that the iPhone's current camera is already capable of delivering high quality photos rivaling the best of today's point and shoot cameras. Reviewers say Apple could be positioning all future iPhones as an alternative to a traditional DSLR camera.

In support of these allegations, Yahoo reports that Apple has acquired the rights to a device with three lenses and sensors and technology that allows for swapping of camera lenses.

Forbes notes that the iPhone has become the "most popular" camera in the world with most of the photos on Flickr and other social media sites coming from it. It also adds that camera technology from Sony could be part of the new improved camera in the iPhone 7. Apple could also opt to incorporate in its new iPhone camera the technology from Corephotonics.

The rumors are silent, however, on the possible release date of the new iPhone 7. It looks like no official announcement will be made until June of next year.
